We all know that perspiring is a natural function of the human body. It helps to regulate your body temperature and balance your salt levels. The unpleasant odour that we associate with sweating/perspiring is usually created when the perspiration makes contact with bacteria on the skin’s surface. Still, though natural, the odours created aren’t usually very pleasant and commercial deodorants have been widely used in the western culture for a number of decades. Lately, however, the all natural deodorant option is becoming increasingly popular.
Introducing the Case for All Natural Deodorants
The chemicals in mainstream commercial odor-blocking products can be pretty unhealthy, not to mention the even less healthy antiperspirant version (it stops you from sweating) which often contains aluminium and has been linked to breast cancer and neurological disorders. This is why I began to use all-natural deodorants.
You may be wondering about difference is between an all-natural deodorant and regular deodorants and antiperspirants. Here is a little more information on commercial deodorants and anti-perspirants.
What’s the Difference Between Deodorants and Antiperspirants?
The difference is mainly in their function. Deodorants help to neutralise or mask odors under the arm or on the body (such as body sprays). You can actually deodorize just about anything. That is why there are air sprays and aerosol deodorants. Antiperspirants function differently. They prevent or reduce our ability to sweat and mask the undesirable odors.
The problems? We need to sweat to stay healthy and for the body to regulate it’s salts and body temperature appropriately. Also, the long-term exposure to some of the chemicals in both deodorants and antiperspirants are not worth the risks.
Do All Natural Deodorants Work?
Do all natural deodorants work? No – not in the same way for everyone anyway. Some of us sweat excessively. All natural deodorants do not block sweat glands. Others of us have stronger body odors and so will need a stronger deodorant. So between your natural body make-up and other external factors like weather and clothing, you may have to try a few different types of deodorant to find something that might work for you.
Benefits of Using All Natural Deodorants
Primal Pit Paste All Natural Deodorant Review
Yep. This is a strong statement, but I can safely say, Primal Pit Paste Natural Deodorant is the BEST all-natural deodorant
CONSISTENCY: Unlike many natural deodorants, this consistency of the Primal Pit Paste is quite smooth. It’s coconut oil base makes it liquidify very quickly upon application to the skin. The coconut oil ingredient also slightly affects the appearance of the product in the container by making it softer or harder depending on whether it is warm of cold.
THE WET TEST: This product is not an antiperspirant. However, in the winter, you’ll likely experience minimal, if any sweating. In the summer months, when active, you’ll likely experience a fair amount of sweating but I was surprised to find that there was no odour at all.
THE SCENT TEST: As I just mentioned, even when being active, you’re not likely to experience any odour at all. If you are using one of the scented deodorants, however, that scent is likely to intensify.
The ‘Primal Spice’ scent is great on men. The ‘Thyme and Lemongrass’ is very strong and the other scents are fairly neutral. Unlike many natural deodorants, when you begin to sweat the scent of the deodorant seems to intensify rather than reduce. These scents last, so be sure to pick a scent that you will like smelling all day long.
THE SENSITIVITY TEST: If you have sensitive skin, go for the regular unscented formula. I found the scented formulas much harsher and got a slight drying rash if I used too much. You really only need the recommended amount so don’t use more than suggested.
I hope you now have a better understanding of all natural deodorants as well as which deodorant is highly recommended by many people across the globe.
