Occupation: Speech Therapist
Natural Hair Since: March 2012
KiK: When and why did you decided to switch to natural hair?
Alexia: I was honestly tired of spending money to get my hair done. It was that simple lol
KiK: How did you go from relaxed to natural hair?
Alexia: I transitioned for 9 months, and then I big chopped.
KiK: What is your current hair regimen?
Alexia: I shampoo and deep condition my hair every week. Then, I set it with twists or plaits. You can watch my current wash day routine so you can see it step by step in the video below.

KiK: What are your hair favourite products to use?
Alexia: Camille Rose Naturals Curl Love Moisture Milk; Almond Jai Twisting Butter; Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Line; Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intense Hydration Masque to name a few. Below is a video of all of my favourite natural hair products.

KiK: What is your favourite natural hairstyle and how do you achieve and maintain it?
Alexia: Currently, a big fluffy braid out. I put 8 braids in my hair with moisturizer and a product that has hold. After day 1, I’ll braid my hair at night with 6-8 plaits and moisturize if needed. It’s not the most glamorous style, but I love my hair at its biggest, and its super simple to maintain! I also love to accessorize with beanies and head wraps. In this video I style my favorite hair wrap in 6 different ways.

KiK: What is your biggest hair mistake?
Alexia: Not enough protective styling. I feel like I over manipulated my hair in the past. Sometimes I think I still do. But she’s strong, she can take it 🙂
KiK: Have you ever coloured your natural hair? If yes, how did affect your hair and what advice do you have for others who want to colour their natural hair?
Alexia: I have had a small patch in the front of my hair coloured with box dye since the first few months of being natural (I would re-dye every 6 months or so). I have always loved how it looked but that section of my hair has always been dryer, and slightly shorter than the rest. If you want to colour your natural hair go for it! Have fun with it! But be aware that it is more work and your hair will be dryer than it’s ever been, and your growth may be affected.
KiK: What advice do you have for others who are newly natural or struggling to stay natural?
Alexia: Protective style! If you get tired of your hair put in some twists or plaits (those are my favourites). Change up your wash day routine and regimen. If your hair is giving you trouble, try some new products. Try some new methods. I haven’t had a relaxer in over 5 years and I never plan to go back! If you’re newly natural it only gets better from here!
