Name: Toni Follett
Occupation: Accounts Clerk / Beauty Ambassador for Kumea Hair Perspective
Natural Since: May 18 2013
KiK: When and why did you go natural?
Toni: My initially reason for relaxing was because I thought it would be easier to manage was I wrong. It just kept breaking so I just decided to make the change back and learn how to care my natural hair.
KiK: How did you go from relaxed to natural?
Toni: I just got up one Saturday morning got the scissors and big chopped my hair.
KiK: What is your current hair regimen?
Toni: I try to keep it as simple as possible I wash and deep condition my hair once a week. I protein treat my hair once a month and I style my hair once a week.
Toni: I use the Kumea Hair Perspective Products, Shea Moisture and Kinky Curly.
Toni: My favourite is a wash and go because it’s quick and easy. I usually just use my fingers or a Denman brush.
KiK: Have you ever coloured your hair?If yes, how did it affect your hair and what advice do you have for others who want to colour their natural hair?
Toni: Yes many, many times cause I love change lol. I have never experienced any damage but if you want to colour your hair just make sure you do your research. I do my own colouring but if you’re not too sure, make sure you go to a professional. I use box colours and the brands I recommend is Clairol Texture and Tones or the Dark & Lovely hair lightener for natural hair. There are also temporary hair solutions out there that can work great like Garnier Color Styler.
KiK: What advice do you have for others who are newly natural or struggling to stay natural?
Toni: My first advice to anyone is do not want someone else’s hair. Learn to appreciate and love your own. Your hair may not turn out like mine or someone else but your first priority should be the health of your hair and it will bloom on its own. Never be afraid to try (to master managing your hair) because it is those experiences that will teach you how to love your mane. Just have fun with your hair. Enjoy its beauty.
