Name: Tonisha Farquharson
Occupation: Makeup Artist/Stylist
From: Kingston, Jamaica
Natural Since: I was born, briefly processed my hair for 2 years
KiK: Why did you go natural?
Tonisha: I went back natural because I didn’t really like how processed hair felt in my hands.
KiK: How did you go from relaxed to natural?
Tonisha: Big chop
KiK: What is your current hair regimen?
Tonisha: I recently fell in love with Kercare. I use their hair milk daily and I also like their curl defining
KiK: What are your favourite products to use on your natural hair?
Tonisha: Creme of Nature Argan Oil Intense Moisturizing Treatment and KeraCare Hair Milk and Dark n Lovely Coil Au Naturel Moisturising Souffle
KiK: What is your favourite hairstyle and how do you achieve and maintain it?
Tonisha: Low cut with a fade. Condition and moisturise daily.
KiK: You have clearly coloured your hair many times? How did it affect your hair and what advice do you have for others who want to colour their natural hair?
Tonisha: I colour my hair very often. I have had orange, red, burgundy, purple, green and I am currently blonde. I used Aphogee products my hair grew a lot and was quite healthy even though I was colouring it over the course of about a year. I got lazy after a while and it got pretty damaged so I just cut it all off again… Some will say I didn’t have to do that but I missed the short hair. So my advice is to use protein treatments as prescribed and deep condition often, and don’t get lazy like I did.
KiK: What advice do you have for others who are newly natural or struggling to stay natural?
Tonisha: Don’t try to make your hair anything that it isn’t. Let it be what it is.
KiK: Thanks for doing this feature. Where can we keep up with you or your hair journey online?
KiK: Thanks again and all the best in your continued natural hair journey.
