Dress to Kilt is a part of Essie’s Fall 2014 Collection. I only found out about it this year. I searched, searched and searched for what appeared to be this perfect red. I eventually gave up, settling on Nanacoco’s My Passionate Love that I previously reviewed HERE. So, imagine my surprise when I went did a rarer visit to Lily’s Beauty Barn in Jamaica, spotted a pretty red, and found out it was what I had been looking for.
Finish – Glossy Creme
Topcoat Used – Yes

APPLICATION & CONSISTENCY
This nail polish has a lovely smooth consistency which I would describe as being on the thinner side of average. It’s very creamy and easy to apply. The polish is opaque on one thick coat but I would recommend two medium coats as with most polishes. The brush is like most standard Essie medium/thin brushes and provides a lot of control over the placement. Also, you don’t have any issues with streaks or clumping. It dries to a smooth, glossy finish.
LONGEVITY & REMOVAL
I really, really, really love this colour. That is why it hurts my heart to say that this polish chips. With or without topcoat, you’ll need at clean and reapply this polish at least every 4-5 days if you want to maintain a neat manicure. I do a lot around the house so I’d find myself dabbing a chip or just reapplying a nail colour ever 3-4 days. To be honest though, I didn’t mind because this colour is fantastic. w
Dress to Kilt took about twice the amount of my usual cotton. LOL.. Still, it was very easy to remove and I didn’t have any staining of the nail. I always use topcoat so the only trick was using enough cotton to dab then do one main swipe to get rid 90% of the colour in one squick swipe. This reduces the colour running into my cuticles, which is what will happen if you don’t use enough cotton and remover.
This is the most beautiful red in my nail polish collection. I wore it (with re-applicatons for over 2 weeks (unheard of in my world). I love it! It’s worth the trouble for the colour – but maybe not to you. The application is great but the polish just didn’t last the week on my nail and that was disappointing. So, this polish gets 3.5 out of 5 stars, falling down only in longevity. Unfortunately, I’ll be buying a back-up of my Nanacoco’s My Passionate Love instead.
Interested in purchasing this colour? Good luck finding it. LOL. You can do a search online or at a store that doesn’t remove old collections or get a lot of traffic.
